Brisbane
International Speedway hosted their track Championship Saturday the 10th of
February. Terry Medcalf took out the feature win with Nathan Macdonald second
and Peter Rogers third. Rain threatened halfway through the night, delaying the
program for an hour before the skies cleared up again and the rest of the
program continued.
Medcalf started the night off with a win in the
first heat, leading from start to finish. Big movers Darran Lester and Nathan
Macdonald, who started from 8th and 10th respectively, moved their way through
the field. Lester was up to third and looking strong until he drifted back to
eventually finish 7th after having fuel pressure problems. Macdonald found his
way into 3rd behind Paul Ledgerwood. Medcalf took the heat win with Ledgy 2nd,
followed by Nathan Macdonald, Mark Lester and Peter Rogers. Shane Hollyman
struggled in the first heat with a broken steering rack which would see him miss
the next heat.
Darran Lester missed the next two heats trying to
sort out fuel supply problems. Stewart Fricker was the early race leader from
Mark Lester with Nathan Macdonald in 3rd. Fricker got the cortina sideways and
spun which saw Lester narrowly miss him, unfortunately Macdonald had nowhere to
go and ran up the back of Lester. Macdonald suffered no damage and made a move
past Lester up the back straight into the lead. Macdonald now had some clean
air and stormed to a heat two win. Martin Cross wasn't far behind in 2nd, while
Terry Medcalf come from the back to finish 3rd.
Nathan Macdonald and Pete Rogers were to start
off the front row in the final heat. Rogers got the jump on the outside and
into the lead as the track was starting to go slick. Pete would then hand the
lead to Macdonald as he spun out of contention with a deflating right rear tyre.
Macdonald ran away with the heat win opening up a buffer from Terry Medcalf in
2nd. Martin Cross finished in 3rd spot.
A light rain shower passed which halted the
program for an hour. The grader ran over the track twice to try and get it
raceable again. The racing got underway again with the track condition changing
immensely. As the the things with wings rolled out for the feature, the track
was looking smooth and fast.
Nathan Macdonald qualified his #32 Commodore on
pole position, with Terry Medcalf out of position 2, followed by Peter Rogers,
Martin Cross, Shane Hollyman, Darran Lester and Mark Lester. Darran Lester
would only last a few laps after still suffering fuel problems. Medcalf drove
into the lead as the green flag waved with Macdonald sliding in behind him.
Macdonald shoved the nose of the Commodore up the inside on a few occasions, but
Medcalf slowly gained a few car lengths lead. Martin Cross was running 3rd
until he slid into the turn 4 wall, putting an end to his night. The yellows
come on the clear Cross' car. There was a restart with 5 laps to go. Macdonald
ran with Medcalf waiting for one mistake from the Ivatek Painting Falcon. But
Medcalf drove faultless to take out the track championship as he crossed the
line with Macdonald right behind him in 2nd and Peter Rogers in 3rd and Shane
Hollyman 4th.
