East Coast A
Grade went back to archerfield last Saturday night for
the first official meeting for this season. Terry
Medcalf made a welcomed return after buying back his
familiar EL XR8 in the off season, and for many, like
myself, it was the first meeting back. The aus 1 BA XR8
has had extensive driveline work in the off season
preparing for the big trips up north this season.
The first
heat saw martin cross win from start to finish (that is
not a typo) with a bunch of cars including Ledgie,
Nathan Mac and myself all bottled up as the last few
laps past. Shane Hollyman blew his tail shaft apart in
track pack and would not compete until the third heat.
Chris duffell only lost his boot lid this race and would
continue.
Second heat
saw the two ford v8's off the front row, with neither
wanting to give away track position to the other. The
Aus 1 machine managed to get away the better on the
greasy track but after four laps was pulling infield
with fuel problems. Martin cross in the 22 commodore
once again found himself leading the race and won it
with the ivatek machine of Medcalf in second and pete
rogers doing a great job in third.
Third heat
saw ledgie and duffell off the front row both with 6
bangers, with a host of v8's breathing down their neck .
On the start ledgie and chris came together and a
restart was ordered. second start saw chris duffell and
shane hollyman come together on the back straight with
both cars out for the heat. 3rd start saw Nathan Mac run
away from start to finish from ledgie with medcalf
coming home third.
The final
came down to a holden / ford front row with cross and
medcalf both gunning for the first corner. On the start
both got away well hitting the corner side by side but
cross's commodore pushed up and hit the ivatek fords
front wheel blowing the left front tyre. Cross went back
through the field whilst medcalf battling with 3
inflated tyres tried to put a gap on the field. Nathan
Mac looked to have been able to take the race to medcalf
but he was to break an axle and end his hopes of
winning. Ledgie drove a good race to bring the ageing
torana home in second with Shane hollyman just happy to
finish a race in third.
Attention
now turns to toowoomba at the end of the month, and for
the oz 1 falcon more work to do until then to make the
package more reliable.
