Gympie Speedway - GW Racing Series Round 2
Tuesday, 18 November 2008

Saturday night saw the team travel to Gympie for round 2 of the G&W racing series at Gympie's mothar mountain speedway. Darran has never driven at the mountain before and had plenty of pre race jitters.

Heat one saw a favourable draw  for a rookie as we started from the rear and were not going to hold any one up.  Race one got under way and straight away the car was handling fairly well and coming off the hair pin was our strong point as we made our way past cars to finish a credible 4th.

Heat 2 saw darran start out of 2 along side adrian stott. On the start darran tried to beat adrian into pagels corner with the pair banging doors as stott was driving through the ruts in turn 1. We managed to get through and take the lead into the hairpin. Darran lead the race until 2 laps remaining when the brakes started fading badly forcing him to the highline around the hairpin. We ended the race third behind winner lorenson and brett baxter.

Heat 3 saw us start out of 7, we still had on going brake problems and on a stoppage whilst running 4th the right rear brake caliper bracket snapped off the diff puncturing the tyre and forcing us to the infield. We were creditied with an eighth place finish.

For the feature we were to start 13th and with only one rear brake caliper and fading brakes we opted to let every one past on the first lap to conserve  what brakes we had and avoid the carnage. After 15 laps complete we went about racing people for positions. Once again the hair pin was workin well consistantly holding the inside and getting a good run off. Lap 17 saw us catch the rotarie of gary maroskie, and four laps past dicing for position until both of us caught gavin lorensen.Lester managing to pass both in the one corner. Once past we started catching the 15 of max clark and the 36 of dave jacobi only to see the white flag come out and not being close enough to make a move, followed both cars across the finish line to finish 6th.

The team very happy to finish with a result on our first visit to the mountain, and will return on the 13th of december  to try again.
